n8nscale
// deployment

From one server to Kubernetes: the n8n architecture your workload actually needs.

From a hardened single-node deployment to horizontally scaled Kubernetes, we design n8n environments around your workload, security requirements, availability targets, and budget — including PostgreSQL, Redis-backed queue mode, workers, backups, and observability when the architecture requires them.

Deployment models compared

We recommend the simplest architecture that satisfies your reliability, scale, security, and operational requirements — not Kubernetes by default.

Single server / Docker

Operational complexity
Low — one host, one Docker stack to operate.
Availability
Single point of failure; recovery depends on backups and restart automation.
Scaling
Vertical only — larger instance, same architecture.
Cost profile
Smallest infrastructure footprint.
Observability
Health checks, container logs, and basic host metrics.
Security controls
Host hardening, TLS at the reverse proxy, firewall rules, credential protection.

Recommended forTeams putting n8n into production for the first time with moderate workloads.

Managed VM / cloud instance

Operational complexity
Low to moderate — cloud tooling helps with disks, snapshots, and networking.
Availability
Provider infrastructure SLAs; application restart automation still required.
Scaling
Vertical; instance resizing supported by the provider.
Cost profile
Predictable instance pricing.
Observability
Provider metrics combined with application health checks.
Security controls
Cloud network isolation, managed backups, access policies.

Recommended forTeams that want cloud-native tooling without container orchestration.

Queue mode with workers

Operational complexity
Moderate — PostgreSQL and Redis become part of the architecture.
Availability
Editor, webhooks, and workers are decoupled; executions queue instead of dropping.
Scaling
Horizontal execution throughput by adding worker instances.
Cost profile
More components, sized to measured execution load.
Observability
Queue depth, worker health, and execution metrics.
Security controls
Segmented services with least-privilege credentials.

Recommended forHigher execution volumes that do not yet justify a cluster.

Kubernetes

Operational complexity
High — justified by scale and availability requirements, not by default.
Availability
Self-healing workloads, rolling updates, multi-node scheduling.
Scaling
Horizontal autoscaling of workers based on load.
Cost profile
Cluster overhead; efficient at sustained high volume.
Observability
Full metrics, logging, and alerting stack.
Security controls
Network policies, secrets management, RBAC, isolated namespaces.

Recommended forHigh-volume, high-availability environments and platform engineering teams.

On-prem / private infrastructure

Operational complexity
Depends on the maturity of your existing platform.
Availability
Defined by your infrastructure standards.
Scaling
According to available capacity.
Cost profile
Uses existing infrastructure investment.
Observability
Integrates with your existing monitoring stack.
Security controls
Full network control and data residency.

Recommended forStrict data-residency requirements and regulated environments.

02

How do you scale n8n for high-volume workflows?

The architecture depends on the workload. For higher-volume environments, we can use queue mode, worker instances, Redis, PostgreSQL, horizontal scaling, Kubernetes, execution-data policies, and production observability. We size the architecture based on measured execution patterns instead of applying Kubernetes by default.

How an engagement works

  1. Assess

We map your architecture, workloads, integrations, risks, pain points, and goals.

  2. Design

We define the target architecture, scope, milestones, responsibilities, and expected costs.

  3. Implement

We build, test, document, migrate, and deploy.

  4. Operate & evolve

We monitor, support, optimize, and continuously improve your environment.
